ISO 9001 refers to the international standard that specifies the specifications for a quality management (QMS) system. It is utilized by organizations to show that they consistently provide products and services that are in compliance with customer and regulatory requirements. It is the most widely used standard of the ISO 9000 series, and it is the only one that organizations are able to certify.

ISO 9001, which is based on the plan-do–check-act methodology, provides a process-oriented approach to documenting, reviewing and approving the structures, responsibilities, procedures, and processes required for effective quality management within an organisation. If you're beginning your ISO 9001 journey or transitioning to the revision of 2015 the first step should be to purchase an ISO 9001:2015 copy.
On September 14 on, 2018, all companies that are ISO 9001/2008 certified should have migrated to the new standard in 2015.
ISO 9001 in its earlier versions
The first edition was published in 1987. ISO 9001 was subject to revisions in 1994, 2000, and then in 2008. The most recent revision was published in September 2015.
ISO 9001:1994 also included modifications to improve the control of design and development clauses as well as provide other clarifications. The series of 1994 also changed the purpose of ISO 9002 and 9003.
Revision ISO 9001 was made to address issues that were raised regarding ISO 9001.2000.
